i'm 6'5" and was wondering in your opinions what the best extended forward controls i could get for around 200 bucks. also what the degree of diffuculty the would be to insall myself. i'm a plumber and work on water heaters, boilers and such so i am mechanically inclined.
Arlen Ness makes a 3" forward adapter kit that uses your stock shifter linkage/ brake reservoir/ jiffy stand...comes with extended brake line and everything you'll need to install...runs about $150.00 or so...I'm 6'3" with a 36" inseam...installed 'em myself on my '06 Standard(piece of cake) and haven't regretted it for a minute!
Yeppers, get the Ness kit. Im a mechanical idiot and pulled it off without a hitch. Several of us on this board can help with any problem areas. I still have my pictures from installation also. And you will be in heaven when you can stretch your legs out a bit.
I have an 07 FXSTC and also looking for extended forward controls (6'3"tall), however, I have heard from mylocal dealer there can be some issues with the rear brake light switch when using the Arlen Ness Kit on 07 softails. Has anybody used the Arlen Ness kit on an 07 Softail and had any problems?
There is no problem as long as you get the kit for the 2007. I called Ness and ordered it from them. The only difference is it comes with extension wires for the switch...that's it. However, many retailers (including the Ness online site) have not updated their sku#'s and don't mention an updated sku for 2007 models. You can call Arlen Ness to get the right number and either order it from them or your dealer of choice. Good Luck.
I am installing the Ness kit on my 08 FXSTC. All goes well, but I can't figure out where to mount the "T" bracket for the extended brake line. Instructions say to use the existing hole in the frame near the exhaust mounting brackets. I can't find and existing hole in the frame. Does anyone have any help or advice. Tried to call Arlen Ness but the TECH Guy is out until next week. I would like to ride this weekend.
