Bare Bones
Got a chance to put some miles on the bike today with the new seat. One word comes to mind. FIRM. Not uncomfortable for the type of riding I do. I even took it down a stretch of road that I generally avoid because it is so brutal, and didn’t think it the ride was any less comfortable than the old Lay-Z-Boy saddle I took off.
All in all, I think my years on sports bikes made me immune to the usual complaints I have heard about Harleys. I have read the Fatboy wheels made them very susceptible to cross winds, but coming from an Aprilia weighing in at 395 dry, this thing always feels planted and steady. I notice the cross wind, but don’t notice it moving the bike around much at all. It is a rock compared to the Tuono. I read the softail suspension led to a rough ride, and it is the much more compliant at soaking up bumps than the Aprilia. Admittedly, the suspension isn’t as “good”, but it is at least as comfortable if not more so. I read the Bare Bones was too hard for more than bar hopping and cruising, but it was quite comfortable and really made the bike fit me better than a more plush saddle. Wasn’t sure how much it would shift my seating position, but it was enough that I had to roll the bars back some to get a neutral seating position.
All in all, I miss my 30 mph to 90 mph third gear roll ons, but I am having a blast in this bike and enjoying making it mine.

i put a bare bones on my fatty , im on the lighter side.. it is a bit firm.... but after some riding i got pretty use to it
as for the solid rims and cross winds .. thats a big yes for me, i changed my front to a 21 inch spoke rim , then did the rear
plus i think spoke rims make a harley.. least imo
like i said im on the lighter side 185lbs and over a big bridge on a windy day i was all over the place.
never had that problem in 25 yrs of riding till i got my evo fatboy .. solid rims aint for me lol
