Default Fork Fitment

Hello,

I’m working on a new project build. Currently have a 93 FLSTC frame and a what I believe to be an original FLSTS springer front end. I’m only assuming this because it had the single left brake mounting screw hole.

I am curious before I invest money on this front end if it will work. I currently have it mounted to the frame and it seems to fit fine however on the lower portion of the stem theirs like a step down notching on the surface and it doesn’t appear to be correct with bearing cup covers I have. The bearing dust covers I have are smooth and don’t have an alternating step down notch. I assumed it is essentially a bump stop but the forks have bump stops that contact the frame.

Any help is appreciated.

It sounds like it's for the fork stop. The lower fork cup would have had a notch or there was a piece that went between the lower bearing and the fork to catch that.
