First Harley Question
Hello all, I'm looking at a 1999 Heritage Softail Special Construction. Is there anythig I should be concerned about being this is a special construction and not a factory Harley?
I friend of mine tole me that I may have trouble getting it serviced at a Harley dealer.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

If your not thoroughly familiar with Harley's, how they work and how to fix them on your own, I'm not sure I would recomend getting a bike like that. Many if not most dealers will work on it, however be warned its going to take a back seat to anything built by the factory. While parts and their cost for a special construction bike could easily become a serious issue.
PS, for most bikes like that one a decent indy shop is generally as good or better than the dealers.

Concerned?
Yes you should be, It means it was built in someone's home garage from parts and pieces, and those mismatching parts and pieces were obtained maybe from eBay, maybe from old bikes, maybe from wrecked bikes, maybe stolen.
Bottom line, you don't know what you're getting, but most likely a bike from a salvaged-wrecked rebuildable title.

Always baffles me why you go through the trouble of "building" a bike that looks like something from the factory. If I am going through the trouble of building a bike, it will be something custom (i.e. bobber, chopper, etc.)
But, yes, this would raise red flags for me. Not b/c you can't find someone to work on it, but b/c you are not sure what you are getting.

Thanks for the feedback. These are all good points that I didn't think about. I'll definately have to put some consideration in on this one. In the mean time, I'll just keep looking. Great forum, full of good information.
