Gear change
Hello,
My friend own a Softail Classic, Twin Cam 88, 2001 with a Barnett Scorpion clutch.
It is always difficult to change from 1st in 2nd gear, or from 1st to neutral. When waiting at red light, the only option is to stay with the clutch pulled, cannot find neutral. Also changing from 2nd in 3rd is difficult, but not as from 1st to 2nd. The clutch is working well, when pull the clutch the bike stops completely.
This is how he bought the bike.
Thinking, as a 1st action, to change the oil into the gear box and primary, as I don't know what oil is inside now.
I don't want to start a debate, just asking what oils do you recomend to use, gear box & primary ? What are you using, with good results ? Friends recomended to me Harley Genuine oil Formula+, or Bel-Ray 85W140 ... etc
Thank you in advance
Marcel

Since you're changing the oil in your trans & primary, Formula + in the primary and BelRay 85W140 in the transmission will work fine...
The symptoms you describe... can be caused by an overfilled primary... so make sure to fill the primary just to bottom of the clutch basket.. While the bike is upright and level....

If there is no change with shifting after the oil change, it's time to adjust the clutch....
