do any of you people know of any inherent problems with the '06 heritage classic? thinkin of buying one [31,000] miles on it. otherwise looks to be in good shape. looks like its been taken care of. i believe it has had the cam chain tensioner/shoes removed already. wire wheels look/feel soild tires are good. no dents/dings/serious scratches. they're asking 7999. good price? or not. i believe it is. a few chrome add ons but nothing crazy. has v&h slip ons. k&n air filter. what say y'all?

IMHO.... They're about $1K high on their price at that mileage...
I would also confirm that the spring cam tensioners were upgraded and how. Hopefully they replaced the OEM INA Brand inner cam bearings with Koyo-Torrington inner cam bearings while they were in the cam chest...
Also, condition and maintenance history are more important than year and mileage (within reason)...
And hopefully upgraded to hydraulic tensioners because the spring loaded ones are more prone to failure. I believe 2006 was the last year of the spring loaded tensioners and many people upgrade to the hydraulic versions, which require different cams and cam plate etc.

I've got a 2004 Heritage Classic and I love it. If you can check exactly what was done with the cam tensioner. Even if tires look good be sure and check the date on the tires. My butt is worth the price of a set of tires and I feel yours would be also. Good luck in your decision. In my opinion the Heritage is the best all around bike that Harley makes. I personally like the older ones, but everyone has their opinion. If you like the bike buy it and if you pay too much that just means you need to ride it more to get you monies worth.
The $8k price would seem ok 'IF' the seller can document the upgrading of the known issues, which includes cam chain tensioner as mentioned, fuel regulator & bracket, QD fuel check valve, recent tire date, brakes, upgraded lighting, etc. Any "missing" receipts/documentation should be deducted from the price unless owner can verify upgrades, as you can expect to put these costs into the bike.
Number of prior owners is a serious matter, too. Many 'Rebuilt' bikes have clean titles if insurance claim wasn't filed.
Nothing wrong with a 16 yr old bike "IF' issues have been addressed and bike has been maintained & kept current.
Most non-essential upgrades (handlebars, chrome, etc.) add little value to the vehicle. Custom paint is a red flag, for me.
Looking under the seat & where the 'sun-don't-shine' can reveal real care as opposed to 'polished-to-sell'.
Real world values can often be found on CycleTrader.com, Craigslist, eBay Motors, etc.
