Default 2002 Heritage Softail Springer Value

I apologize in advance if this is not the right place and have done tons of my own research but wanted to get a feel from the group. I have a 2002 Heritage Springer in Red/Silver with about 36k miles. A handful of mostly cosmetic mods and a Stage 1 kit. Has been sitting for a few years and is not currently running (working on that now). Overall the bike is in great shape, just needs a good cleaning and all of the chrome polished up. Have considered selling or trading but know the value of these continues to rise. I see very nice condition versions going for 12K and up but wanted to see what you guys think something like that may be worth in it current condition. Comes with bags and passenger seat/back rest. Needs a new fuel pump, which I am working on, a couple gaskets and and a full service.

very clean as is for an 02, ultimately, it will be worth what the right buyer wants to pay. or whatever you think it is worth and then wait.

i dont think 12K is unruly, even with older vehicle prices now...i try t assess what i would spend on decent parts to replicate. taking that minus any labor into account, you could not build a clean running bike for 12K.

People way overprice their Springers... always have, probably always will....

Used prices were recently stupid high, but they have come back down towards normal recently... And they have come down quickly, or many aren't selling...

Both Black Book Powersports and JD Power value "average retail" (BBP) and "Good" (JDP) at just under $5K. If you are looking for around that $10K number, you will need a low mileage, pristine example of a 2002 Heritage Springer, that is above average in condition, and maintenance....

I'm pretty sure a knowledgable Harley owner would not spend over $10k for an excellent condition 2002 Springer.. I have a 2001 Springer, excellent condition cosmetically, mechanically, with all OEM parts, and 12K miles.... I paid less than $7K for mine 6 years ago. It had 8k miles then. I realize it's just a cool looking 22 year old motorcycle, and wouldn't pay $10K for mine today ... I really like that bike, so it's not for sale...

Luckily, there are a lot of emotional Harley customers out there and everyone is hoping to have one of them fall in love with their "for sale" motorcycle..... They are buying many years and many models for far more than their actual worth... So in a way, anything is possible...

IMHO...... You could advertise it for $12K or $13K, but I wouldn't turn down too many realistic offers, if you really want to sell it......

Nice looking bike!

I have to agree with Hattitude on this one. All depends on how badly you want to sell it. I see Springers on FB for up to 20-K!!! That's insane money, IMHO. That said, depending on the bags you've got, they can cost a pretty penny if you try to buy a set. Springer leather stuff seems to always hold a premium, or they never sell. I'm not sure which way it actually goes.

I found my '05 Springer for just over 7K last August on FB. It had the screaming eagle hydraulic cam plate and SE203 cams installed already. That was a BIG deciding factor as I put a bunch of miles on my bike(s). Had only been there 45 minutes when I contacted the owner and set up a meeting the next day. Guy said there were 18 guys in line after me, so there is a demand but is it a "must-have" at five digits? a lot of folks think so. But let's face it, it's still an older bike and you want it simply because you want it. I could buy a LOT more (newer, bigger engine, improved suspension, touring, etc.) bike for that kinda money. Even today.

I wish you well with the sale and hope you and the new owner both feel you got an excellent deal!

Thanks all for the quick responses. Yea, pricing this thing is crazy but I am trying to be realistic as well. Since it does not run and needs a good bit of cleaning it is going to take me some time to get her ready, and I have not even checked the cam chain tensioners yet. With that I have a couple options. There is a smaller dealer near me wanting to trade for a 2007 Street Glide in very nice shape. 24K miles, upgraded stereo, etc. Also, since my ad is up, I have had a couple offers for around 8k for it as is. Being I am 6'2, 245 I am not sure this will be the best bike for me anyway so am torn between trading for something I can ride immediately with my wife, or taking less money and just being done with it. Life is busy. Also, I have noticed the higher priced ones are very low mileage and mine is at 35k. One other thing, I have not even had this one running yet since the fuel pump issue not so sure what can of worms awaits on the other side. If I was confident I could pull 12k our of her I would put in the work but I am starting to think this is more of an 8-9K bike even when I am done with it.

Decisions, decisions.
And this pic represents the bags I have.

Fixing cam tensioners are time and/or money to fix, but not hard. The EFI fuel pump is an obsolete part... so unless you find a dealer with an NOS pump, you'll have to go aftermarket and figure that all out... I think $8K would be a great price for that bike as is...

However, if that Street Glide is in good condition, and you want a Street Glide... They're average retail value is currently $9,255.... So it would seem to be a better deal for you than the $8K cash....

Good luck with your decision...

Yep, have watched a few videos on doing the CCT and does not look hard but will take some time.

Here is the link to the Street Glide I am looking at https://www.purepowersports.com/Pre-...ports-12541139

I have not ridden it yet but think it might be better suited for me just not sure.

Looks like a clean bike... It's got the 96" engine w/hydraulic cam tensioners and six speed which is good. That would make it more comfortable than the old Softail springer on longer rides, especially 2-up....

It will also have the weak problematic first generation "upgraded" compensator and problematic first generation automatic primary chain tensioner, but there are good replacements available should they give you trouble..

Only issue I potentially see is that the Street Glides have the lowered look, with shorter rear shocks and lowered front suspension.... They don't ride as well, or as comfortably, as the other touring models... With your height & weight, that could be an issue with the ride quality... however, there are also many options to improve the ride....

All depends on what you want...

Good luck with your decision...

.
An 02 has an 88 w/a 5 speed...

OP - Bikes get the most when they are ready to roll. On a private sale 10 to 12k seems fair IF tires, battery, tune, fluids and detail are performed and the fork seals are ok. The minute I see a bike that sits un loved, I walk away... It tells me you don't care and tells me I dont want it... That is UNLESS I can get it as a soft project which to me is 1/2 value. I just looked at and walked away from an 85 FXST kicker with zilch for miles because it sat and other than the stuff mentioned above, it needed lots of other work too.. You have a pretty and desirable bike and GLWS.

I have an 05' Springer Classic that I just put $1700 into a cam adjuster/cams upgrade and I'll be selling it next summer sometime. I'll be satisfied if I can get $9K out of it.
