Default 1990 FXSTS Springer

I'm looking at a 1990 Springer with about 37,000 miles on it. Physically it looks really good. It seems to ride really good too. Anything special mechanically I need to be lookingfor? Any or pros cons to this model or year? Any downside to the Springer? The price is to high ($10,500) but I can get that down to blue book ($8500) if I really want the bike. Help! I'm real close to pulling the trigger on this bike.

One of my favorite bikes of all time..the evo springers. It's my second, possibly first favorite. Don't let the miles scare you off..the evo seems to be bullet proof and mine is about to roll over to 37,000 soon, if it hasn't already.

evo motors are pretty solid. just make sure everything looks good, not too much rust, that kind of thing. may nto hurt to run it over to a mechanic to have it looked over since it has a good number of miles. there is no telling how good/bad it was cared for

Is that 95 a Bad Boy? Post pics. 97 Bd Boy here.

AZ232, 37 on a 1990 is actually not bad. If you can get the price down, better still. I don't see any downside to the Springer. Go for it!

I have an 89 springer with almost 80K on it. Had 27 on it when I bought it and it needed neck bearings, kind of a standard thing on springers, they are hard on them. I need to do them again, but mine lasted longer than Harleys. While you're doing that you might as well replace the rocker bearings also. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary, I did the top end last winter, runs like a champ again now. Generally 80 to 100 is normal for the top, depending on how its (been) taken care of, so you got a ways to go there. 89 & 90 BT used some one year only parts in the starter/clutch/primary/mainshaft area but I've not had a problem with that yet. I am comtemplating changing out my whole primary to the later (90-93) style for easier parts availibility. Other than that, its a Harley, needs fed, care and ridden. Springers are great 'cause theres not a lot of them out there, people always say "I didn't know they made those." They stand out a little. If you're not a wrench, it may be good to have it looked at by one.
Get the price down as much as ya can and go for it if it floats yer boat. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. One more question. This deler is asking $2,000 over blue book retail price. Is that normal when buying from a Harley dealer?

Might want to find out if the cam bearing was ever done. Not sure on the earlier models, but HD switched away from timkin bearings in later motors. My evo ate a cam at 19K. Just a thought. I would also check the neck bearings as has been already stated. Can you get service records?

No. $200,000.00 over book is normal from a Harley dealer, lmao.

Most car and bike dealers start way high so they can accomodate someone who wants way too much for a trade. If your dealer is legit, he'll come down.
