Just got back from a ride, and noticed that I cracked my heat shield somehow.
I know that welding it back together will destroy the chrome, so checked ebay for second hand ones - but that's way out of my price range.
Any advice on how to fix this so it doesn't snap off?
You will get a certain amount of heat damage but as said on TIG welding. I had a guy make me a stainless header pipe all tig welded and the spread of heat is very small.
I'd be looking to see why it cracked as well, as a repaired or replaced shield may do the same again if not addressed.
Perhaps you have a loose clamp or the inner bracket has broken, etc.
It's eventually going to crack right thru if you don't get it done soon. Guys have lots of them in the garage I suspect. Put a WTB on here, it's just the shipping from NA to you that will put you back.
Its not going to fall off, the ring clamp will hold it on and there is another one further up near the head exhaust port. Mine cracked in a similar area on my 2019 Tri-Glide, I bit the bullet and bought a new one.
That isn't fixable, welding will trash the chrome and it will crack again soon, you can tell by the way the crack is stressed and separating. Find the motorcycle shops around you, chances are somebody will have one in their used parts stash.
