Taking ownership of a 2002 Heritage Springer here in Scotland. She has 18,000 miles only on a 21 year old machine and has been regularly serviced (mainly fluids and consumables) by both dealers and experienced home mechanics. I am aware I need to check cam chain tensioner wear and the rockers on the forks. I do not believe she has been 'beasted' as both previsous owners are elderly gentlemen and shes just too heavy for them now.
Any guidance you can give on other tasks / jobs that you would suggest? I am told she has had a 'big bore conversion to 1550cc and a new uprated carb. I cant confirm as yet as Im still awaiting delivery. Once shes at home i will post some more pictures. At this stage Im just building a master list of 'to do / check'. Regardless I will service her and sense check all the manuals (coming with the bike).
Great looking Springer and congratulation on your new ride.
I agree and check the date code on the tires. If more than 5 or 6 years old. Get new rubber. Change the fluids, check the air filter ect. Enjoy, that nice looking Springer.
Update the cam tensioners and check the springer rockers and you should be good to go for many miles, and many smiles...
FWIW... I have a 1550cc (95") big bore kit on my 2003 Heritage... It runs very well...
My '03 is EFI, but my 2001 Springer FXSTS, has the OEM Keihin CV40 carb. I think it is a very good carb, underrated by many, and suffers from the bad reputation of the Keihin butterfly carb that preceded it.... Even if the "new uprated carb" is just a re-jetted OEM CV40 carb, that will be all you need for the big bore kit....
Enjoy....!!!!
