Default Deluxe help.

The GF's 09 has the rack that sits on the rear fender, it becomes useless when we put the pass backrest on so she can load her luggage bag. I want to pick up a luggage rack that attaches to the backrest so she can carry another small bag. Does the round tube require a special luggage rack?

TY

Do you mean a round tube passenger sissy bar?

Does the GF's '09 have a fixed plate sissy bar mount or the quick release?

On the fixed plate models, the luggage rack attches to the fixed mount inside of the square sleeve that holds the sissy bar.

On the quick detach models, the luggage rack has it's own mounting pegs on the detachable hardware base mounted to the fender structs.

FWIW..
On the fixed plate sissy bar mounts on my '01 & '03 Softails, the actual sissy bar fits into a square shaped sleeve on the mount. The luggage rack I have mounts to the inside of those fixed mount sleeves. The sissy bar mounting screws (2 per side) are replaced with longer screws that also go through the sissy bar mount. My luggage rack is compatible with both those bikes.

I recently sold a '16 Low Rider with a fixed plate sissy bar. It was the same style mount as the earlier Softail mounts. I bought that bike with a round bar sissy bar, and changed it to a square bar sissy bar. They both ussed the same mount. Both the round and square sissy bars had square ends that fit in the same fixed mounting plate. If the width was the same, I suspect my luggage rack would have attached to that bike too. I never checked or tried to attach it to that bike though.

So I found that the round bar/square bar didn't matter on the fixed plate '16 mounts.

I believe the key is to make sure the luggage rack is the proper width, to fit the bike's tire/fender combination.

I hope that info helps. But as always, verify before you buy...

Good luck, let us know how it works out...

That's interesting @hattitude My bike is in her garage now, both bikes have quick detachable pass backrests, next time I'm up there, I see if they swap out. The style on my Heritage is like you described, the square tube and the 5 bar luggage rack slide into one another.

Thanks.

My bad, I accidentally misspoke.... The luggage rack having it's own mounting pegs is on my bagger.... I confused it with my Softails...

I just remembered that my '09 CrossBones has the quick detach sissy bar. After inspecting it, I only see two quick detach mounts, unlike the four available on the bagger. The sissy bar is welded the quick detach side plates with no internal screws to "tack on" a luggage rack...

So I have to back track and say I'm not sure how the luggage rack will attach to the softail models with quick detach..

I decided to consult my 2010 Parts & Accessories catalog.

I found the info below. It shows two different detachable sissy bar side plates. One round and one square. Both with the internal screws to tack on a luggage rack as with the earlier Softails. One of the sissy bars pictured has a luggage rack attached.

Looking throughout the catalog, there were a few sissy bars that were welded to quick detach side plates (like my Crossbones), but most were bolted to the quick detach side plates like the earlier Softails.. That would allow a luggage rack to added to the rear of the sissy bar..

I will have to conclude that the type of detachable side plates will decide if the bolt-on luggage rack will fit...

If it has bolt-on sissy bar side plates it should be easy to fit a luggage rack (size dependent).

If it has a welded on sissy bar, I do not know how to attach a rear luggage rack.

Certainly not difinitive information, but I hope this info & the pics help...

Going by memory, the Deluxe had a matching round tube sissy bar. Here is a pic…
