I have a bent springer rear section. It is bent below the tree. Can the lower legs be removed from the tree?
The rear legs (rigid fork assembly)...No
The front legs (spring fork)... Yes
You didn't mention the year or model, but here is an exploded diagram of a a 2001 FXSTS Springer front end. They are all pretty similar but with differences like the side the caliper mounts on.
I had some regular fork brackets (original old parts) that were bent that I wanted to save and had Dr John frame services in Anaheim Ca repair them. The repairs were done correctly and the charge was fair. Not sure they do springer parts, but you might give them a call.
Your really asking for safety issues and trouble. Just have them professionally repaired. (That would mean someone who’s done many, already knows how and doesn’t have to ask anyone else how) Or buy a used full assembly. Don’t start brazing, heating or glueing stuff like that you don’t understand. You wanna get torches out, make a sissy bar or exhaust bracket.. not the front end suspension.
‘Don’t wanna sound harsh or be the guy to pee on your oatmeal.. but that’s not something anyone wants to mess with due to safety.
‘I’ve seen original Harley EVO springer front ends on market place for as little as $1500. DNA ones for $400-$700
