Default Blue pipes

Hi; Was out washing and waxing the bike a 2006 Heritage Classic F.I. and took notice the pipes were bule from the engin to about a foot down. Have SE II pipes and stage 1.1800 miles total around 1000 since the up grade. Is this normal?
Thanks Dennis

Yes. There is no way to get around chrome turning blue. Well you could never start the bike, but what fun would that be?

Running lean would make them worse too.

Not entirely true. HD bikes from the factory are tuned VERY LEAN. If you retune your bike upon initial purchase you can richen up the mixture. A sign of a well tuned bike that runs a bit rich will have pipes that turn mostly gold with little blueing.

The pipes are a gold blue so nothing to worry about Just thought it would take more then 1800 miles to turn them.

I've got an 06 Heritage Classic FI also -- the pipes are stock and they have a very nice gold with a very slight blue hue them -- so it sounds like you're in great shape! Have fun on your Heritage! Great looking bike!!

Hehe, dont use that as a garentee of a good tune, you should also check your spark plugs to make sure they collaborate the pipes color. Ive seen some heavy guage exhaust pipes that are hard to turn blue, even with a very lean mixture. The HD pipes though in general are a basic 18 guage steel construction and thats what my observation is based upon.

yep I hear ya -- ck'd the plugs and they are a nice tan color -- they look great! I haven't seen plugs that nice in a long time actually -- seems hard to get a lot of bikes dialed in -- raced motox bikes from the time I was 8 until 21 and always had to screw with the setup depending on geography etc and I'm glad they have FI now!

Did the dealer down the ECM flash? Sound like it could be lean.
