Default Race Tuner?

Well, looks like my Fat Boy won't be ready for PU until next Wed or so.The dealer had to order my windsheild. The forecast here is for rain, and more rain, so I might as well wait anyway as I don't want my first ride on my bike to be a soaker.I asked the service manager for more detail on Stage 1,2,etc. and about the PC111. His recomendation was a "race tuner" module for around $400.00 and change. He says that with the Race Tuner, your good to go for other add-ons. Does anyone have any experience with the Race Tuner? Is he blowing smoke? Also, the best explanation I've found for the "Stages" so far was on a link in the Engine section of this forum.

I've got one... soon will have two....... getting great power and great mileage...... no heat.... they did it once and done...... that's why I'm buying the second one ... there are others on the market but I ride alot including trips from 2500-6300+ miles and like the idea that if out on the road and a problem occurs HD will fix it ..... even under warranty...... that's my opinion.

drummer3278, spend some time on this forum and get educated a little more on the tuners, pros and cons. You will probably get more confused, but then the light will come on. Especially laying out the $$$. Everybody has there own opinions on this hot topic. Ends up what are you going to do (ie., mods) to your bike down the road; are you going to ditch your present scoot for another.

The one big disadvantage that I don;t like about the SERT is it's married to that bike, and can;t be moved to another. But, many out there on this forum have them and love them, just as the PC'ers do for quick, dirty and cheaper alternative, with pretty good results.

Bottom line is do some homework, use this forum to your advantage, because the threads on this topic are vast and unbelievably informative. Now you can go back to dealer and talk again. At least you will force dealer to answer your questions instead of them just loading you up with info that they are only comfortable with.

just my $.02 cents and I HAVE NOT yet completed my quest for my exhaust/tuner setup (project for the winter).

good luck bro and keep asking questions here and someone out there will be chiming in to help out....

I have a SERT on my '07 and have had no problems at all. I just changed the baffles in my V&H BR and it took it just fine. Also, it's put out by HD, and the stealer installs it, they will cover it if it takes a crap.

Just my .02

Default RE: Race Tuner?

Went with a SE AC on my 07 fatty, also with V&H BSS pipes- dealer said go with SE RACE Tuner, so i did. Bike was dyno tuned at 1K not that cheap at $75.00 a half hour, the dyno ran me over $200.00 and it ran great on top end but not so good on bottom end, more dyno time = pay more $ to have it retuned. So, I decided to swap out the SERT and went with a Tmax with auto tune which will work well with future modifications....cams or 103 build or 107 build....D&D fatcats.... getting ahead of myself into wish list territory.

Not that the SERT is not that great- I just opted for not having to dyno tune. I like what the ThunderMax has to offer. A good friend of mine opted for the Vance and Hines fuel pack for his 07 RK and likes that, so look around- check out options.

Cheers,

mark

mgmmgm, was waiting for someone to weigh in with TMax strategy. Hopefully drummer will come to the same conclusionwhiledoing more research. I think the $$$ of the TMax scares many, but in long run, you save $$$ as you point out. That's my vote...but such a tough decision to make whichever approach you go with!

I have the SERT on my FatBoy, and the bike runs and performs excellent...

Of course results will vary, depending on the person doing the dyno tune.

if i am not mistaking the sert does not stay on the bike and to me this is an advantage because under my seat has no room left for a pc111 or any thing else.
