might lose some torque due to loss of back pressure running straight pipes...can you pull them out without ruining them? if so, try it and see...sometimes louder pipes comes at a price of losing some performance...little trick I did from reading in here is : I have 2.25 baffles and instead of losing back pressure I inserted a thumb screw into the bafflegetting back some of the pressurewithout losing the loud sound....they call this a lollypop install..in fact I think someplaces sell their baffles with theseinstalled already....Irode my 07 softail without the lollipop and then after thelollipop install it performed much better...jusy my 2 cents....gl
Which baffles are you running now?
If its the standard baffle I don't think there will be any detectable difference in sound, but you'll likely loose torque. the standard baffle is just a simple ventauri that slows down the exhaust gas enough to make some back pressure.
i ride an 07' electra glide classic now, but i used to have an 06' heritage with v&h big shots. some say you can't tell a difference running straight pipesbut i could. you will loose torque and throttle responce. i loved the loudness of the pipes but hated the popping on decel. i ran a big city thunder monster baffle, which is basically a lollie pop set up like some one mentioned and they sound great. deeper and louder . i thought that they even increased my torque and power. check them out at ( bigcitythunder.com )
Popping, and very loud without the baffles. My wife had a set of V&H on her 883 without baffles and we put some back in, it was too much. Plus as stated performance losses.
I removed the V&H baffles on my Mikuni 42 carburated 02 Heritage because I didn't like the harsher sound with them in. It's not that much loader without, but the sound is deeper. I put a splitter in the hole for the baffle screw to reclaim lost torque. They don't pop on decel which tells me the carb is set up well for the open pipes. The throttle since the Mikuni install is incredibly responsive

Most bikes i have heard without baffles sound crap.Sure they are louder but i would prefer a nice note with bark than just loud.Took my baffles out to see what is what like on my v&h big shots, went around the block, got home and put them back in.
To me its only a temporary measure. Most people will eventually get a set of pipes for there ride.
