Lowering the Softail Custom....
I need to lower my '07 Softail Custom....still not comfortable
when I put my foot down on unlevel ground...
I purchased the two Bolts on Ebay ....but one Harley dealership
wants 3 hours labor to put them on !!! And at 85 bucks an Hour..!!
I just thought that was too much...is it really that difficult to
install those 2 bolts ???
thinkin' about doing it myself ......
For starters a motorcycle jack would be necessary. If you dont have one I once used a railroad timber under bike after jacking it up with a standard floor jack. If you dare to attempt this make sure you have a freind to help. Other problem is removing the stock bolts from shocks. A press is the way to go and still can be somewhat dangerous. I removed mine myself with a floor jack and my truck bumper with shock in between. Againi DONT RECOMMEND THESE METHODS. Just works for me. Other than that , removal of the shock can be a little difficult because they come out and go in a certain way. Patience will get u thru it. After you remove them to be safe u can have the stealership install the bolt for u for about 40 dollrs for both. Atleast here in San Antonio Tx. Then reinstall and check for heighth. You will want to go as low as possible for looks but u will need to readjust to your liking for comfort. There is also a very good reason that they do not recommend going any lower than 1 1/2 inches. Trust me, u will bottom out. Not fun. Hurts both u and bike. I have a bad lower back. All in all about 3hours work or less and a 3 in difficulty level out of 5 for first timers. This lowering kit is a give and take. Less shock travel, hence less suspension , great inexpensive looks. Good luck.

First and foremost...I recommend you find a more trust worthy shop.
They are trying to f&*k you in the drive thru!
Secondly, as others have stated, this is not a difficult task to tackle. Jump into it, figure it out for yourself, ask questions if you get stumped, then sit back and appreciate the work that YOU did to your own bike.
Just my opinion. Good luck.
I did mine myself. The right tools make it go faster. Having to use what tools you have and make them work because you are a cheap bastard and won't spend the dough on the right tools for a single job like this amkes it take a little longer..........or so I've heard.

3 hours is too much, an hour to an hour and a half at the max.
I had mine done at the dealer while I was having some other work done and they didn't even charge me a full hours labour for it.(so it goes to show how long it really takes)
Like the guys said if you have a jack, a service manual, and are a little mechanically inclined, you could do it your self.
