Default Custom or Fatboy?

I have been a "hangaround" because I'm not getting my new Softail until July (price, thank youtoeveryone on those threads). I have a Sportster now, but I am torn between the Custom and the Fatboy. I read all of these post's and think I am already part of this group. I think your comments will help me make my decision.

Mike,
I would suggest taking a test drive with both models whenever you can. In this way, I believe your answer will come from within. After you demo both bikes - one will be left calling you to take it home. Make sure you enjoy the process - because selecting a new bike is a great experience.

Hi Mike, I see you have the "1200C", same as me but bigger. The FB and FXSTC are very different bikes. If you like the look and feel of the 1200C then the FX will feel just like its grown up brother - at least thats what I found - fitted me like a glove. The stock seat is so comfortable as well. FB has that smaller, wider front tyre and boards, and the handlebars are turned further in, so the ride is very different. Test both out and go with the look and feel of the one you want. July is the time that the new 09's are out (about mid July) so you might want to just hang on for a few weeks to see what the 09 offerings are - you never know.

I have to admit...I was torn also. My "adopted" Dad had a BSA chopped (that I grew up on)...the softail customdrawn me to it right off the bat. There was two factor's that led me to my purchase. One, I love the rake of the Custom. Second, I really didn't like the big forks of the of the Fatboy. I testroad both, even though the Fatboy handled better (less rake), I endend up with the Custom..."I could learn the turning characteristics". I agree with MartyF...ride both and see what pleases your eye and offers the riding characteristics you prefer.

These two rides could not be more different.
Ride them both and you will have a clear winner.
They are both awesome bikes.

I have had both the FX and FLSoftail and as mentioned above, they are different bikes. Both have thier good points and bd points. I prefer the FL because I do a lot of "touring". I wish I could have afforded to keep my FXST, because it was a lot of fun to ride, especially in the twisties and around town. Ride both and see which one you like best.

Have fun trying them both; it's the best way of reaching a decision you won't regret. Both very nice bikes, but though both are softails they are quite differentin ride, look & feel.

Enough of that objective cr@pthe [sm=hail.gif]FXSTC is best in Harley's line up, bar none [sm=groupwave.gif]

I still drool over the Custom everytime I see one.

I bought the Fat Boy because it was going to be easier to ride (after a 25 year hiatis away from riding) with the fat front tire and floor boards.
But you are use to the skinny fronttire and foot pegs.

Testride both you'll know pretty quick which one you want.
Both can have deatchable bagsand windshields, so that's not really a factor.
