Default Aux. Light Problem

Hi Forum, I installed a Aux.Light Kit p/n 69286-05A on my 2005 FLSTSC. I think I did exactly what the instructions stated but I just can't seem to get power to the lights. At the Relay plug I have power on the white wire (low beam )and I have power on the black wire (160 connector). I can power the lights if I use a jumper wire on the plug but other than that they just won't work. I pluged a new Relay in but that wasn't it. thanks, Bernie

If you have power in the proper place and you hot wired the lights and they worked, did you check for the operating ground for the relay? Also , is the circuit switched at all?

Here's a schematic that will show where the terminals go just to double check

The ground seems to be working fine. The difference between your Schematic and the plug on my wire harness terminas is 87 on yours is output on mine is triggar (lowbeam) Treminal 86 on yours is triggar on mine is output. thanks, Bernie

The way I see it is this, your control circuit (low beam lead if that's what you are using) should be on #86 then #87 should go to the lights. Sounds as if they are reversed. The way yours is wired now, it puts +12V on both sides of the operating coil , a no operate condition.

Terms 86 & 85 are the control circuits to operate the relay and 86 should be the wire from your low beam, the 30/51 & the 87 are the load, power +12V on 30/51 and 87 to the lights themselves.

85 should be ground.

This may help understanding the relay used in the schematics.

Glad it worked out for you, I figured that was where it was reversed. These relays are pretty easy to figure out , only thing that throws a wrench into the works is some color coding that is close and you hook it up wrong, or missing a color stripe on a wire. Other than that, the diagram above is pretty easy to follow.
