Hey Fellers,
Just got my new softail Tuesday. Yeah got rained on on the way home. I've had a 81 sporty,72 sporty chopper,76 superglide,46 flathead chopper, and a 82 FLHF. This new 2008 FXSTC rides like a doggone cadillac. Rode it home from the dealership (75 miles) and this thing sailed down the road. Does anybody know the tallest risers you can use without changing out the handlebar cables, and wiring? You know what they say Once you go Ape youre ape for life.
Thanks
Congrats on the new bike, and welcome to the family!
I have stock height risers on my bike, but the bars are 12.5" Wild 1 Chubbys. These bars are taller, wider, and have more pullback than stock. I was able to use all stock cables, with the exception of the brake line. The wiring had to be extended also. I'm not sure what my bar dimensions would equate to in riser height, though. One way to determine what you could go with is to take off the bars and hold them up higher. Just make sure to keep enough slack to compensate for turns.
Welcome to the 'family', just be a little careful. Some of us (like L2R) can be a bit dysfunctional. Especially when it comes to spending money for bike goodies.
