Thinking of getting a Hypercharger when I install the new exhaust system. What are the pros and cons to this as opposed to just getting the SE A/C kit or other high flow kits? Is the difference in performance worth the money?
I had one on my Sporty and it was ok. SE ac will flow more air. They are mostly just for looks, but anything is better than the stock ac. It's cool if you like the looks and the flappers.
They look cool but I have seen a few come in and out of the local chopper shop I hang out at. They have had alot of oil leak problems. We have turned alot on to the Arlen Ness "BIG SUCKER" intakes. They perform great and they will not leak oil.. The butterflies are cool on the Hyperchargers but the Ness really performs. http://shop.arlenness.com/Productdet...roduct_ID=6985
I run a hypercharger and like most will tell you, it's strickly for show. It does flow better than stock, but I think people who buy them (myself included) do so for looks only. The butterflies stay closed until you OPEN the throttle, so no worries of rain getting in there, plus the K&N filter is coated to resist water. It's one of those things that you either love or hate. Personally I hated the stock "ham can" air cleaner cover.
I did notice a little increase over stock. My biggest compliant it it uses a spacer therefor pushing the whole assembly farther out. This in turn rests against my leg and causes me to have to angle my foot when braking. I personally don't like it but deal with it due to the money spent on it.
I always felt it was mostly for show, and dyno runs kind of prove it. But I'll bet that at higher speeds, there is an increase in air flow due to the higher pressure at the butterflies forcing air into the intake. That should lead to better throttle response.
I fitted one recently and the beast still runs sweetly and no oil leaks, (yet?) Did 100miles today and ran her up to 110, but there is little or no difference in performance IMO, the leg adjust issue is no big deal and I for one love the Drag/butterfly look[sm=drlove.gif], but it's a personal thing no doubt. Good luck with whichever you choose.[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
