How tall are you, I don't want to get the wrong size so was just wondering. Don't know if the 14" or 16" will work for me.

Joedirte...love that screen name! I have a standard with mini-apes and have been trying to get a good windshield setup for the past year. First I tried a HD detachable but didn't like it, too big, too much updraft, felt like I was ridin a bagger.
I was given a windvest with a 14" windshield and it made an incredible difference although I was still getting some buffeting on my face. I called windvest and they said my windshield was too short and that I needed a 16". I tried to go cheap but cracked the 14" when I tried to drill holes to make it taller, ended up ordering the 16". Life is sweet now, I did a 200 mile test Sunday, no wind pounding on my chest, very little wind on my face, no problems with sunglasses leaking, arms and hands don't get tired pulling against the wind and best of all I can hear my pipes at 80MPH just like I am standing next to it. I have the clear windshield and when I look at the bike I dont' even notice it anymore, it is not nearly as noticeable as the big shields with all the metal framework. They are a little spendy but well worth it in my opinion. I am seeing a lot of bikes with them now. I am going on a run to Phoenix next weekend and I am so glad I got this windshield thing solved. Hope this helps, good luck.
5'11" barefooted. The 14" can be adjusted 1" up or down, the 16" can be adjusted 2" up or down. Coop, I noticed you ride a nightrain, FYI windvest just came out with a wrinkle black setup last year for the NT.
I Have a Windvest on my '07 Custom. I went with the 14" and also needed to move up to the 16" (I'm 6'4") Of course, I got mine on E-Bay for $50, and the extra windshield cost $50 also. So I saved $250 off MSRP[8D]
Live2Ride,
Do you experience any under the windshield helmet buffeting using the Windvest? Also, what size apes are you running on your custom?
Thanks,
Jack
Sorry for the late response. I don't really experience any helmet buffeting at all. The only time my head moves around is on a really windy day, which it would move around no matter what. I don't really experience the crosswind that wants to blow your shirt up like other windshields cause. I had the HD Quick-Release windshield that I used once, and I noticed that my shirt kept wanting to blow up. My dad had the same HD windshield on his Fatboy, and I noticed the same thing. The Windvest doesn't have that. The wind it lets in, to me, feels like riding through town at about 25mph with no windshield at all, and that's when riding highway speeds.
The bars on my bike are 12.5" Wild 1 Chubbys. I'm 5'6" and they fit me perfect. My arms are right at shoulder height. Maybe a hair under. I think the bars and Windvest are the best mods I've made to my bike. They look good, and make ridin' that much more enjoyable due to how much more comfortable it is.
I've been watching with interest. I have the HD removable on a Fatboy. The Fatboy seems to be a buffeter no matter what you do for some reason noone seems to be able to figure out. Live2Ride, did your dad's problem get solved enough to scrap the HD windshield? Really that much different?

He never tried the Windvest on his bike. He wound up trading his bike in on an Ultra.
Sorry for the late response. I don't really experience ...
Thanks for the info! I think every post I've ever read from someone using a Windvest, says they do not experience helmet buffeting and that confuses me, but guess it must be because of the unique design. I bought a Memphis Del Rio sport shield and the under the shield wind buffeting will rip your head clean off. I had to buy the Memphis lowers, which look like crap IMO, to omit the buffeting. The lowers is a good solution, I just hate the looks.

I haven't seen the Memphis Del Rio sport shield, so I'm not sure how it's designed. The Windvest has a lip at the top that directs the wind right over your head. It works great, even though the winshield is so short. The windshield sits about chin height with me, and I'm able to look completely over it. I don't have to look through it at all, unless I want to look at the road directly in front of my tire. That lip gets rid of any helmet buffeting. Also, in the Windvest installation instructions, it says to position the windshield so that it's at the same angle as the front forks. They said the angle can be adjusted to deal with buffeting if you experience any. I'm not sure if the Memphis is designed the same way or not. If not, the Windvest might be the answer to your problems with both buffeting and looks.
