hey lucospock! what front wheel and tire do you have there? i want to change my stock wheel but still undecided.
as to the thread a friend of mine swears by the ride of a dyna wide glide. he says that once you ride that nothing else makes it. i too have abad back and the night train hasnt killed me yet.aint that right, Hellboy!
I love when this question gets asked - whether its on the dyna forum or softail forum, the answers are the same (x handles better, y rides better on one, then y handles better, x rides better on the other). Bottom line - test em and see what ya like. When I was debating between a nightrain and the fat bob, I got a chance to ride a softail custom (buddies) and a demo bob. The softy was a great 'profiling' ride - really comfortable and just a fun bike to sit on. The dyna was definitely a bit rougher, but also just ate the corners like no other big twin I had ridden. I'm still young and my back isn't blown out yet, so I went dyna. Hey, you know what they say, as long as it's a Harley, you're all right, right? Good luck, have fun tryin em out, and let us know what ya get in the end!
I have a Dyna and spend time over there on the Dyna forum and one thing for sure a common theme is how uncomfortable the stock seat is.
Also the passenger pegs are mounted to the swingarm which may be a factor in the comfort of any two up riding for any length of time.(depends on passenger of course)
How tall are you?
I own both , ride both, however I prefer my Dyna SG.
I'm 6'5" and theSoftail puts my knees too high and I prefer the Harley rumble and characteristic shake in the motor over the balanced engine in the Softail, Super Glide is much more perky too.
I was in the same boat as 2WheelsGood, I wanted the wide glide, especially when I heard this year was the last year they were making them... but in the end I got a 2003 Softail Standard. I do not regret my decision at all.
I chose softail. Very nice ride and yes I lay it over til it sparks. Guy I ride with has a superglide. We stop at a light my mirrors are calm and clear. Man, his whole bike is shaking. I'm afraid parts are going to be propelled at me!!!! Enjoy the ride.
I used to have a sportster with a custom seat, just got an 07 NT, and unbelievable, what a dream to ride, it just has the stock seat. Just took it for my first 3 hour plus ride and didnt want to get off, better than my mini van. Never rode a Dyna but this was fantastic.
This is pretty funny. I bet if you just swapped the words dyna and softail around you could drop this thread in the Dyna forum.
Seriously I have owned both and they are both good bikes each with their own pros and cons. The smartest thing you could do if your not sure is rent each of them for a day take a nice long ride and see which one works better for you.
