Default A scratch - Ahhh

I have noticed a 3/4 " long scratch just to the left ofthe pillion area on my Fatboy. It can't be seen when the two-up seat is on, but when the solo is on I CAN SEE IT. It is small, and you have to look fairly closely to see it, but I am just like most of you and something like this drives me crazy. Is there a way to get this out without taking too much paint off? I lightly put some polishing compound on it, and it is a little better, but the bke is black and scratches from buffing show easily. Any help is appreciated.

you can get really fine sandpaper, like 1500 to 2000 grit and try sanding it a little. I wouldnt sand too much, no telling how much there is before you break thru. then use the compound. the Oriellys around here sell 3M supplies.

if it was me, Id touch it up and then sand it smooth. depending on how deep it is

I'm pretty sure you'll need a buffing wheel and some good polishing compound, especially on black. I know what you mean though. I put a rack on my back fender and use it alot. Just the taking the straps and bungies on and off have lightly scratched my fender up pretty good. I bought it to ride so it's gonna happen sooner or later.

run you nail on it... if it does not catch you can easily sand it out... just soak some 1500 in water for about an hour, then lightly VERY lightly sand it out, then get some buffing compound and polish that sucker out! I just got a belt buckle scrape out of my tank this week! came out great!

Would it make ya feel any better if you adopted the attitude that every piece of dirt, every chip and scratch in the paint, is a badge of honor earned by riding your bike in the real world?
I have lowered my standards to more closely match what life does to me.
I must say though, I will not tolerate oil leaks...
Good luck fixing your paint.

Now that I have cleanedthe coffee off of my laptop....

I have a new XBONES and have put 1,800 MI on it so far. In that time from mile to mile I have also lowered my standards, road debris and me dropping a socket or two have brought me to the realization that I am not the show room type and probably won’t be unless I pay someone to do it for me.

The wet sand paper trick I will try tonight on some of the scuffs in the rear fender. The road on the roads terms. Keep the sunny side up and the rubber side down.
