stripped??
Bought the smart siren II and the install could be done my daughter if but for one thing...
I go to take the mud flap/guard off...in front of the rear tire.....just two small bolts and one of them will not come out. It just turns and turns and turns.....the opposite side of flap is not turning with it so that's not the problem. The bolt just turns but doesn't back out. It wont tighten up any more either...just turns.....Maybe I messed it up taking it off and on before when installing the chrome pieces on the rear end. Any suggestions????

Brian,
I cannot quite picture what part you are referring to but if it is the bolts on the struts you need to put a spanner on the nut behind the guard to stop it from turning so you can either loosen or tighten it. It is a difficult place to get to if you haven't got your bike up on a lift with the rear wheel suspended.

After re-reading your post Brian it sounds like you may have a stripped thread if the opposite side?? (do you mean the nut behind the guard) is not turning. Is the nut welded to the guard? It's not the end of the world, there are products available to fix stripped threads such as helicoil (I once used it on a stripped spark plug housing with success). You have to take the bolt out, re-tap the hole and insert the coil in. The other option is to put a longer bolt in with a nut on top of the other nut so long as it doesn't rub on your tyre. If you cannot gently force it out with a pair of pliers, it needs to be drilled out.
I hope I'm not confusing you - if this is not what you meant, send us a pic.

The bolts you're refering to is about an inch long. First I just loosen it up then I take it off by hand. I just installed the alam myself and no problem during installation except the RCS on the Pager (seems not to work).
If the nut isn't turning but the bolt is, then take a scratch awl or some other pointed object and push outward on the underside of the bolt. Perhaps that will help it catch a thread and loosen. Sounds like the bolt is stripped out at the tight position.
old geezer and everyone--thanks for the advice. Geezer; your idea sounds like it would work. I think you are picturing my exact problem. Maybe, I'll have to borrow my neighbors lift and he and I together can get it out. Unfortunately, I don't have those things in my tool box that you speak of. It's frustrating, because I know the install of the smart siren II is easy once I get that little freakin plastic off[:@]
