I purchased a chrome upper belt guard and would like to install it ASAP when it gets here. Can I remove the nut on the lower end of the shock and justslide the bolt out enough to get the guard off and the new one on, or do I have to put the thing on a lift to get this thing on, any help is appreciated!
Yes, just remove the nut and slide the bolt back a bit. It will hekp if you adjust the left shock to the max pre-load notch and the right shock to the min. pre-load notch to help take tension off the bolt.
I recently tookboth the upper & lowerguardsoff mine and I only had to remove the nutas the guard mountson the nut side of the swing arm,are you sureyours ison the bolt side?
I just installed a washer the same thickness as the guard and put the nut back on.

yup same here. im going to do the lower when i get some more money saved up. and have my oil tank and battery cover painted to match when I do it.
If you pull any shock bolt without relieving tension by jacking the bike up you will not get the shock compressed enough to get the bolt back in. The bikes weight is compressing the shock. As stated though, if its on the nut side there shouldn't be a problem. Myself though, I don't do anything with the shocks unless I jack the bike...thats just me though.
well I got the upper an lower belt guards installed, was a breeze did it in 20 minutes after me, my father, step mom, future wife and step daughter went to a game, you can actually see the fireworks from my house, so we actually went to the game to see them up close, it was a hoot.
anyway, I loosened the right side shock bolt and pulled the thing completely out, it wasn't compressed, and it slid right in? are my shocks bad? mind you I have the lowered shocks, but I don't know if that matters?
