Default To Patch or Replace a 240 ?

I have about 2650 miles on my Rocker and just got a small staple in my rear, pulled it and sure enough a very small leak.I would never patch my sportbike tires because of the speeds I would reach, but my Rocker has only seen 105 so far. The pin hole is dead center in the pattern, is it safe to patch a 240 or should I just replace it ? The dealerships policy is to replace, they will not even touch it unless you replace it, they said patching is unsafe.

Worse case senerio is the patch doesn't work and you go down on the road.[8D]
I really wouldn't try a cheap repair on something so important safety-wise. JMHO

Mine is in the shop now hopefully getting a new rear 240. I found a big piece of metal stuck in it dead center. I do have the tire and wheel coverage, so I should find out in the a.m. which way they went.

You have to ask yourself one question, "Do you feel lucky????"

At 45 MPH and the tire going down in a corner, How quickly and defensively can you react.

BUY the tire, unless you fell real LUCKY!!!!

Just replaced mine about a week ago. Dealer told me the same thing, don't patch or plug. Had less than 1000 miles on that tire. Was a little mad about it. However, it was fun watching 3 mechanics change out that low profile tire.

if it was a small hole and I had alot of tire left I might run a tube, but I don't trust plugs

Fookthe dealer...they want to sell you a brand new tire...and they'll BS you to do it...if the staple hole(s) are small...patch 'em...I picked up a small framing screwin my brand new freshly mounted 210/17 Metz...had less than 500 miles on it [:@]...I pulled out the framer and plugged that hole with a $1.50 plug kit I bought at the localgrocery store...I have since put over 1,000 miles on the bike...NO leaks/problems whatsoever...if you pick something up in the sidewall you're screwed...other than thatyou should have NO problem patching/plugging a widebike tire on a solid rim...if it keeps you up at night, just put a tube in it...but to buy a new tire is a waste of money.
