Hey, I'm new to the forum, just bought my first Harley, its an '87 Heritage. I haven't had a bike for about 20 years. Quick question, the clutch lever on this thing is really hard. The cable may just need lubed, if so what do you guys recommend, or will is an adjustment needed? The clutch works fine.
Also......
the new '06 softail models have a light clutch pull, due to different ramps. My dealer says that they can modify the ramps in the old Harley models' clutch handle and make them pretty light....or at least a lot lighter. You may want to wander by your dealer and have the techs do the work to your clutch. But do make sure your cables are OK and well lubed, too. Nothing worse than having a clutch cable go on you while riding.
Tell your parts guy you want an EZ CLUTCH!. You have to remove the right side tranny cover to install it, but you'll be amazed at the results... should set you back about 25 bucks.
I have a 98 evo and the clutch pulls just as easy as the front brake. I have ridden friends bikes that were evo's and tc88's, some were hard to pull, others weren't. Lube the cable, if it stills pulls hard, take the lever off, clean out the pivot hole and plastic bushing, lube it and put it back together.
