Default Self installation?

I'm pretty new to all this and needing a little help and some explanations.
I have a 06’ Softail Deuce (FXSTDI) and just purchased some Screamin' Eagle slip-on mufflers (64900-99). My question is how simple and effective is it for me to do the installation myself, will I need it to be put on a dynometer and/or have a software download, recalibration, etc…? What do you guys think?

Installation is simple enough to do your self. I don't think that you need a remap with just slipons; if you do the air cleaner too then you will need a remap or SERT, PCIII, or something.

SERT (screaming eagle race tuner) and a PCIII are both used for further tuning your bike, if modes are made to engine like air filter, cams, head work and so forth you will need a tuning device.

SERT is basically computer software that allows a tuner to map your (make changes) to the ECM (brain of the bike); once changes are made the SERT is disconnected from the bike.

PCIII is a small box (another brain) that connects to your ECM and modifies the map of the stock ECM and stays connected on the bike.

If you do a search here on the forums you will have lots to read, good luck.

A SERT is a Screamin Eagle Race Tuner. Its a way to remap the computer and if you do the stage one air cleaner you have to have it. I really think even with the slip ons you should have it because right out of the box the 06's are lean to meet emisions. I was looking at the PCIII and others but bought the SERT because if I ever change anything in the future I can easly change the maping with the SERT. Not so easy with some of the others if you can at all. Expensive but you did but a Harley.

Thank you for the plethora of information on the subject. I think I'll go ahead and bolt them on myself and see what/sounds like. I will def. plan to remap and/or get SERT here in a couple of weeks for when I install that Stage 1 Air Cleaner. If ya’ll have any other suggestions on light modifications I would be more than happy to listen. And yes, I did buy a Harley and have to except what I have got myself into… HaHaHa

the slip ons will take less time to change than it takes to get the tools out to do the modification. It is a very simple mod.
