Default Passenger backrest failure!!!!

As we were riding yesterday the passenger backrest failed and came loose! Luckily we were turning a corner and were at low speed. I have the adjustable passenger pegs on with the floorboards and they are the only reason my wife didnt go off the back. Upon looking at it after calming her down the rubber gromets that the front part of the backrest go into had broke and allowed the backrest to rotate back. CHECK YOUR MOUNTING POINTS ON A REGULAR BASIS IF THEY ARE DRY GET NEW ONES!!!!

We were lucky and I would hate for one of you to have a worse outcome. I am fabricating braces that go from the backrest to the removable tour pak mounting points so this cannot happen again.

Just FYI for my HDF brothers.

Stay Safe!!!!

I have a quick release also on my RK. How old is your backrest? I do check both my bikes regularly for anything loose.

Thanks for the word on safety Harley's vibrate so much that everything needs to be checked on a regular basis. Everything also needs locktite.

Not sure which removable backrest you are running. The unit I have uses the tour pack mounting points already on my fatboy. They are pretty solid. They also hold on my saddlebags.

BTW- you can find the removable sideplates used pretty cheaply.

Glad you guys are o.k
Keep in mind that "quick release" means that not only will it come off easy(see where I am going with this) when it fails it will fall off easy.
on important parts like this I would go through the trouble of bolting it on the old fashon way and removing it the same. what its on with 4 acorns and a little lock tite.

on second thought you may be on to something. looks like Paul simon has 51 ways to leave your lover. LOL
