Default Tachometer for 08 Fatboy

Hi, other than HD part numbers 74752-08 and 74748-08 which are both centre console mounted combined speedo and tacho's, has anybody managed to successfully fit another tachometer option from either the HD stable or wherever?

Malc

You can always mount a 'mini-Tach' such as the 69828-06, 69829-06 or the 69827-06... these mount separate from the spedo and I believe this is the way the CVO comes....

Good luck.

Thanks for that.

I have looked at the mini's as an option but would have to sort out having a good quality mounting bracket manufactured, as the CVO's I think all had Ř1" bars (correct me if I am wrong on this) with a different mounting sytem to whats now on the Ř1 1/4" bars. There isn't a mount that will do from the catalogue for these bars.

Have been unsure about a couple of things though, this being one and the other is how the minis are wired into the harness/electrics and can it be done on an 08?

Nice Bike lexy, and again thanks for you input.

Its the same mounting system as on my last 03' Anniversary Fatboy.
It won't fit the 08 though, as the bar mounts are different for the Ř1 1/4" bars that are now fitted.

I just put a digital mini tach from speedway instruments. Mounted to the front master cylinder. only 2 digits but it lets me know where I'm at.

I have an 06 fatboy and would be curious to know what you come up with and I would like to see it when you're done. If you would, pls email me a photo or pm me here and let me see what it looks like... thanks

I saw a led bar tach that mounted where the bars mount but the company went out of business.

I believe there is a Harley gauge mounting (maybe others too) that uses just the top two bar clamp bolts. It should fit your setup since using only those bolts means the bar size shouldn't be an issue.
Another option is a bit more expensive, (about $400) but Dakota Digital does make a digital tach and mounting that will or should fit your bike.
If you already had a LED speedo it might "fit" the overall look. But putting a digital tach on a bike with the stock analog speedo just wouldn't look "right" in my opinon.
I would rather just replace the stock speedo with a combination speedo/tach like the Harley analog, a Dakota Digital 'blue/green' or Zippers 'red' version of the Dakota.
Best is that the whole combination gauge is no more expensive than just getting the digital tach all by itself.

There isn't a gauge mount listed to fit the clamps that are used on the Ř1 1/4" bars I am afraid.

What you say is very true about mixing LED's with dials though as it would look a bit of a mish mash.
I was trying to avoid going for a combo one because I very much like the look of the seperate chrome units as fitted on the CVO's.

My local dealer is having a 25% off one day sale this Friday so its make my mind up time on the Combo unit which is the way it looks at the moment. 25% off in the UK is a very rare occurance believe me.

Ron (Pensacolaharley) - Sorry it does look as though I will have no solution other than one of the part numbers mentioned for a combo.

You didn't mention if you 06 was the 1450 or 1580 model. 1450's (1" bars) have no problems getting tachos to fit. 1580's will I am afraid, be as mine.

The closest I have seen that may do with some engineering mods is the Kuryakyn 3" version.
I have never seen one in the real so to speak and from the photos cannot establish if the clamp will stand being bored out another 1/4" or in fact be re-engineered.
I suspect it is an electrical rather than mechanical unit but again havn't seen one to confirm.

Thanks Guys - Malc
