Default What the.....?

Got a friend from our days together in Southeast Asia and Germany and the Viet Nam war. Lost track for over 30 years, found him a couple years ago, and this Thanksgiving week I traveled to Long Beach, CA to visit him on the Saturday after...he owns an Indian Roadmaster, and he and his Brother (Roadstar) and I planned to ride together with me on a rented Heritage softail. Wonderful day, through Malibu Canyon, Malibu Beach, N Hollywood, Brentwood...nearly 6 hours on the bikes together. Lots of significance there that others from those days and the war will recognize...

Anyway, it's the rented bike which has prompted this email. It was nearly as silent as a scooter. I mean, there was NO exhaust note out of this Heritage AT ALL! It was almost embarassing. I couldn't figure it out. Thought maybe it was because it was a California bike, but it had been ridden in from Florida the week before (still had the FL tag on it), and the FL exhaust is the same as the other 48...so what gives? Can anyone tell me why this HD sounded like a Honda open frame scooter???

It's not just a Ca thing. That's why there are a zillion threads about changing the exhaust.

yeah its normal the stock exhaust on the latest models is a mere whisper.
change the exhaust is the only solution

just be happy you don;t live in a country like germany where you can't change the exhaust noise...you can change exhaust look but by law the stock sound is as loud as you are allowed to go.

Same problem with my Softail Custom; it's so quite that I cannot hear when to shift gears. The funny thing is my old '69 Honda Z50 makes more noise then the HD....
