I have been looking online for flat black crash bars for my 09 Cross Bones, without much luck. Being new to this, I figured it would be safer for me AND the bike if I put some on, at least for the first year or so. Someone posted pics of a XB with chrome crash bars, and it looked good, but I think I would like them better in flat black. In my search, I found some that say they are for softails, but that seems a little vague to me. HD doesn't make a whole lot of mods for the XB yet. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
I've got the Black ones on my Springer Classic and they look great. Have the rear ones also just haven't put them on yet. If you look at the pics in my profile you can see what it looks like on the bike. We pretty much have the same bike except for the fenders and yours has the wider swing arm and apes.
I bought the nostalgic engine guards and had them powder-coated for my Springer Classic. The black looks much better with the Springer front end than the chrome, IMHO.

You could always have a set at the front & the rear, in case of falling off, or you could try padding the legs with pillows, or (and I'm being radical, here) you could keep things even safer & take the car..
Puh-leeze, guys, don't ever think 'crash bars' are safe. All they're good for is protecting the exhausts when it keels over at zero speed 'cos you've misjudged getting on or off.
I was tail ended 18 months ago by a drunk teenage driver as I waited behind a line of traffic. The rider backrest broke two of my ribs & the crash bars broke my right shinbone as my foot was on the ground & it hit it as it accelerated up to the speed of the tw*t in the car.
