Help!!!!
Replaced cables tonite....Clutch cable is replaced here is the problem....If I put it into gear with the bike shut off and lever squeezed I can't spin the back wheel. WTF does the bike need to be running to engage clutch? I put everything back properly on my clutch plate but still no go. My adjustment on my cable is 1/8 inch but it isn't engaging??
you need to adjust at the clutch first, then the cable. slack cable adjuster. remove the rear cover on the primary. in the center of the clutch assembly there is an allen bolt with a jamb nut. loosen jamb nut. run allen in until lightly seated. back off allen 1/2 turn, and tighten jamb nut, while holding allen in place. install cover. re-adjust cable for 1/8" gap, at the clutch pirch. should be good to go. steve
also, depending on the primary fluid that is being used. the gap between the clutches is very small. the heavier fluids have a tendency to act like the clutch is'nt dis-engagueing. especially if cold and thick. start the bike in neutral, and let it run for a minute. this will get the fluid up to temp. this is why some, including myself run atf in the primary. steve
ok steve, pulled derby as per instruction, followed the manual to a t. clutch is adjusted and cable is perfect. still when i pull the cable the rear tire wont move in first with the clutch engaged. i haven't topped my fluids my tank is still off so i am not ready to start it yet, does the fluid level have anything to do with it? Does my bike need to be running to have my clutch disengage the tranny?
For some reason the Harley is very difficult to move with it in gear and motor off. Everything may be fine with your bike. If some here don't believe it just go out to your bike put it in gear and try to roll it with the engine off. Very difficult if even possible. Put your bike together start it and I'd bet that your fine.

I agree with snip, re-assemble, top off your fluid and let it warm up a little. Give it a try and let us know. You can always re-adjust the clutch after everythings together, although its sounds like you did everything correct. If I ever get into changing anything where I need to adjust the clutch I like to go back and re-adjust 1 more time after riding. Get back to us and let us know if that solved your problem. I've never tried to move a bike until I was finished the job, topped up the fluid and ready to ride. You have me curious now.

Went for a ride. you guys were right you really can't move the wheel by hand when it's on the stand with the clutch engaged. tried it in fifth last night and moved the wheel. Rode it today and it was perfect. thanks guys for the help. I learned some new things through this experience.
