You don't have to take your tank off.

You can unbolt the tank and unhook the fuel line at the petcock and it will slide back out of the way

If I were you, I will take the tank right off. Why? What if you accidentally drop a tool, nut or bolt right on the tank? S h i t happens a lot.

Tank removal is not necessary. However I always cover my tank with a thick blanket to avoid scratching it up.

You don't need to remove the tank. The first thing you do it disconnect the fuel line if it is injected. Drape the console over the front end. Put a rag over the rocker cover, when you push the tank back the fuel clamps will scratch it if you dont. Some wd40 between the tank and rubber frame cover helps.

2 hours from start to finish? I call shennanigans! I do it for a living and cant swap out bars in 2 hours.
