Hi everybody
Some doubts about if what I´m trying to do is correct. I have a FAtboy 2003 FLSTFi with stock 150mm rear tire. I want to convert it to a 200 (as the new model) with stock parts.
I had a present of an OEM chrome swing arm for the 200mm. Want to Buy all OEM, Rear Fender, Struts, and Wheels of the new model 2007&up. I understand that I won´t need to touch neither belt and sprocket nor transmission. Just Strut Horns?
What do you think? Is it going to work or maybe not so well as I think?
Any help will be woonderful to clear my confusion about it.
I dont think it will work, the newer bikes with the 200 rear run a different narrower belt and I would bet the off set is different as well as the pivot atthe frame.
If you get it to work please post pictures and a parts list I sure there are a few people here that would like to do it if it is cheaper and works
Hi, Tom from http://harleygoodies.com/ here. Sounds like a great project but I seem to recall reading that you cannot jsut bolt on the new swingarm and ride off. Is the fender large enough to fit a 200mm tire? The newer models with the fat tires also have a narrower pulley and belt to make more room for the tire. I also believe there is an offset in the primary to allow the belt to run straight.
I could be wrong and wish you success in this build, it sounds like there is some research that needs to be done. Either way, let us know how it turns out.
Well, parts I think in using for the conversion are:
flstr rear fender 59819-06b
Struts 59430-08 left / ,59434-08 right
2009 solid wheels, original ones (Silver, Bullet Hole Disc Cast Aluminum) rear - 41092-08 / front - 41038-08
tires - 43242-06a / front - 41474-06a
Chrome Swingarm 48607-08.
All of it makes less than 1800$. Quite a lot less than any kit, and including wheels and tires. The only thing I think I´ll have to cut are the strut horns. About the offset of the primary, pulley, belt, I´m studying that matter and gets me confused.
Well let´s see if I have some more comments to make the correct decision and can work well.
Thanks for your comments and keep helping me
You are right about the trade, but you know, when you are in love with your bike, you prefeer a "lifting" or adding some size than change it.
I was thnking to use same calipers and rotors, even belt. Fortunately I have the tires, 10´5 fender and 200mm swingarm.
So some drops of crazy ideas, some work and a miracle, and could happen.
Thanks and keep giving light to my ideas, I need to know if yes or not.
OK considering I do not want to change the Fatboy Look, what would you do?
I'd lower it........and then ride it! Looks great as is and I prefer the size difference with the slimmer tire to the wide tank. Wide rear tires look best with smaller stretched tanks and some rake, IMO.
