Default rusty spokes

I have a 2008 Softail Deluxe Anv. Eddition with the upgraded rims. I purchased my bike mid year but do to a move I have not put more then 500 miles on this bike. I was detailing it today and put it on my motorcycle jack so the wheels would move freely. Cleaning them I noticed that I have a significant amount of rust starting to develop on my spokes.

Are any of you deluxe owners having this issue? If so did you use something to clean off the rust? Can you clean off rust or will it keep coming back?

Thanks

i bought a used 07 deuce with the same problem, previous owner must of kept it somewhere damp. I used a kitchen brillo pad, elbow grease and a 12 pack. They cleaned up decent, but not perfect. I am planning on replacing it eventually anyway so I didnt get too picky. Just polish them after you get done removing the rust and that will help keep the rust from forming. Good luck.

Unfortunately you can remove the rust but what's left is bare metal in those spots and it will rust again if you neglect it. Wax will slow it to a dull roar, but never completely stop it. You could try warranty, but it will be like banging your head against the wall to get results.

You know I thought maybe going to a stealer and bringing it up but I can see it know....

Looks like I will have to clean them up and hope for the best. It just pisses me off that we spend this much money on our bikes and the MOCO is not going to use quality show chrome on the upgraded rims that I spent extra on!!!!!

I am a bourbon guy so I guess I better take it easy or my wife may find me laying next to the bike with steel wool in my hand

Luster lace worked pretty well for me, but it keeps coming back. Losing battle I am afraid.

turtle wax chrome polish with rust resolver!!!!!!!!! works awsome. I have some old chrome rims on my 95 wrangler (the other toy) they always get alot of surface rust on em, but this stuff takes it right off and puts a nice coat of polish on the chrome.

On the flip side I have to agree w/ rbabos, what you'll have left is small areas w/ exposed metal that will continually rust.

good luck bro

Its my post so I will go off topic... I was just at your CP. Dude who is the girl in your signature? Second what is your bands name? I am an old school punk and was in several punk bands back in the earlier 90s.

can always powder them
shout works pretty good but first thing i usually do if i want to keep the siney look is pull out the steel spokes and lace in stainless... that is what i did on my st bob casue i wanted the twisted spokes...
if you decided to powder them let me know, you may want to try some shout when you are cleaning them, just like the clothes cleaner stuff, spray it on and use a small brush, works amazing!!!

I just posted on this same issue on the general chat forum.

Here in florida, when a bike is cooped up in the garage for a lengthy period of time in the garage with pool chemicals such as muriatic acid or chlorine, corrosion can occur.

If this is the case for you, then you may want to store these items elsewhere. ~ )
