Default LED Fuel Gauge Problems

Hey,

My LED Fuel Gauge recently started acting up. The middle 2 LED's are always illuminated. Other than than it seems to work fine, the last 2 LED's work and still turn red when the fuel level drops. I haven't washed my bike, or ridden in the rain recently. It kinda started out of no where. I'm low on gas, so I'm going to fill up and see if that resets it. Just thought I'd check here to see if anyone else had the same thing happen to them.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Brad

There seem to be a number of problems with the flush type. This however is the first time I have heard of that particular malady. Most of the time we hear about the LED's just going dead.
The newest version of it is 'supposed' to have had a number of the 'bugs' taken out.
But as far as how you would be able to tell a new production one from an older model I don't know, and I don't think anyone else does either.
If it was installed at the dealer I would give them a call and ask them if its still covered by the warranty. Some guys have gotten bad ones replaced that way. But most have been forced to go out and get new ones on their own.

After hearing the HD led fuel gauges having issues, I'm glad I bought the Kuryakyn led fuel gauge and voltmeter combo. I have had it on for a couple of years now and have no issues other than it shows less fuel than it has in the tank. But to be fair, I had that issue with the stock gauge too.

Mine are still good, I too have heard of all kinds of trouble with them but they look cool, I just use the tripmeter for my fuel guage, my guage never worked right from the start and the flush ones are no better.

NO gas gauge on a Harley seems to work "right".
They all seem to read lower than they should, mine alys says I'm almost out when it still has about half a tank.
So I think it has more to do with the sending unit inside the tank than the gauge itself.
After all it just shows what the sender is telling it.
So I always use the trip meter like everone else and when the trip meter says I have over a 100/120 miles I fill it up.
The gauge may say its empty, but it never takes more than about 2.5 gallons to fill.

ChromeJunkie,
You might consider getting a Zippers speedo to go with the gas gauge.
Its not an exact match to what you have but its similar enough to look good with it.

It also has a few more functions than the stocker, like a built in tach.

Default Flush mount

I must have the newer version or just lucky. I have the HD leds and after a 18 days of rain on a 21 day trip they still work just fine.

How's the warranty on parts you install yourself? I've had it on the bike for about 1 year now. Think the dealer would exchange it? Oh and to clarify, it's not the flush mount type. It's the one with the LED's around the bezel. Thanks for the help so far.
