Default ECM Flash

I have a 08 Softail custom with Rush 1.75 slip ons and running xieds. I was wondering if I removed the xieds and install a high flow air filter if the ecm flash would adjust back to factory specs .Since I am running the rush mufflers on it I think its still running lean with out the xieds. And after the ecm flash I would reinstall the xieds and get back to a more rich running condition.does any of this make sense or would I be wasting time and money.

Thanks for any input.

The ECM will adjust to changes in environmental variables, as returned by its sensors, to try and get back to the ECM settings. It relys on sensors in your bike to tell it what current measured and reported conditions are and then the ECM can make appropriate adjustments to get the those measured and reported conditions inline with what is programed in the specific map. Your XIED's are tricking your ECM currently into providing more fuel by telling your ECM its not getting enough. Removeing the XIED's will remove the trickery and your ECM will deliver less fuel - to the point that was in the original map. I beleive the download will remain EPA compliant.

What do you hope to get out of the download? Have you considered other Fuel managment options such as T-Max, PCV, SEPT/SERT or TTS? Any one of these choices would provide much more functionallity and improved performance options over the XIED's and I believe with at least the T-MAX, SEPT/SERT & TTS options you would skip the download, you may beable to skip it with the PCV but I am not sure if the rev limiter can be managed with a PC unit...?

I guess I was trying to go as economical as I could. My thinking was that the rush slip ons make a lean bike leaner and a flash would solve that I thought. And then reinstalling the xieds to bring it back to a richer run condition.Question is do I do the flash only or do the flash with the A/C upgrade also. Just checking since Im on a budget .

For spending the cash on a harley.... There are some cheap ****'s in here. Do it the right way or pay the consequences. Stop being economical.

If I were you i'd skip the download. The only thing I am fairly certian it does it raise the rev limiter? Spend much time with the bike wound up? I don't.

On a budget I install the high flow AC and keep the XIED's. But if performance is in my long term plans I take some steps to get some other fuel managment in the future that can access some of those performance enhancing features your XIED's aren't going to get ya.

My 2 cents, but I bet if you do a search over in the ECM section you'll find others who are doing exactly what you want to do and could let you know if their haveing any problems with that set up.

I had the stage 1 air cleaner & download done to my bike when I bought it.I added pipes later myself.Ran ok but I had alot of heat.I got a pair of xied's and that cooled it down.Run's a little better too.I do have some decel popping though. This is temporary as I will get some sort of fuel management next year.Hopefully the Tmax set up.The download raises the rev limiter and Adds 5% more fuel to match the airflow from the open air cleaner,so i"ve heard.
