Default Tank help

I was wondering if anyone could tell me exactly why the 08 FXSTB tank wouldn't fit on my 07 FXSTB. Dealer says they wont but didn't specify why.

Does anyone know for sure?

The dealer told me a '04 and '06 FI tank would not fit on my '00 Carbed bike....But they do! I did have to buy a fuel pump plate (Thanks Coastie!) and a petcock bushing.

Your dealer does not want you picking up a tank off eBay, they want you order a new tank from them.

Hopefully there is a couple FX guys that know if there was any frame changes and help you out.

Good Luck! and lets see some pics of your project.

shes still in one piece at the moment. I'm not buyin parts from the local dealer anyway so they're screwed either way. When parts come in I'll be takin pics for sure.

you can see the pics from when she got backed into (along with some others) here:

I know my 09 NT has a feature that tells me how many miles I have left to go in my tank.
The feature may have started in 08 giving the gas tank a different part number than a 07 NT.
Just a wild azz guess on my part. The tanks sure look the same.
I would give several HD dealers a call to get other opinions.

Frame on an '08 is PN 47008-08. Thats new for 2008.
Tank is PN 61625-08. Thats new for 2008

Can't tell you the others won't fit but I can tell you the parts are all new for 2008 for some reason.

I looked into this and the most common answer from dealers was the fuel pump from 07 and older will not fit in a 08 and newer tank.

Whether its just the top plate or the whole assembly I and they did not know.
