The dealer told me a '04 and '06 FI tank would not fit on my '00 Carbed bike....But they do! I did have to buy a fuel pump plate (Thanks Coastie!) and a petcock bushing.
Your dealer does not want you picking up a tank off eBay, they want you order a new tank from them.
Hopefully there is a couple FX guys that know if there was any frame changes and help you out.

shes still in one piece at the moment. I'm not buyin parts from the local dealer anyway so they're screwed either way. When parts come in I'll be takin pics for sure.

I know my 09 NT has a feature that tells me how many miles I have left to go in my tank.
The feature may have started in 08 giving the gas tank a different part number than a 07 NT.
Just a wild azz guess on my part. The tanks sure look the same.
I would give several HD dealers a call to get other opinions.
