softail texperts..need input please
Hi all,
a mate and I went to look at an 07 Deuce and found some things that just didnt sit right, For starters it kinda didnt seem to track right when it rode, more so at low speed, but the tires were down a little, it had a solid fat boy rear wheel with a 200 metzler which the guy said is how he got it?? could this be the cause?
More concerning was that the speedo and odometer had actually stopped working which he claimed was the fact that the battery had gone flat??? it said 5000ks which although the bike was real clean the front of the motor above the oil filter told a different story.
Also the indicators werent working?? and the key light on the dash stayed on? which the guy said was all because the battery had gone flat?
Are these common problems? or do you think he is pullin a fast one??
Thanks
D

Did a Goggle search for 07 Softtail Duece Specifications, specs say it came with a 160/70-B17. Walk away unless you can get it really cheap and can straighten the electrical and tracking problems yourself. might be expensive to pay dealer labor rates to trouble shoot electrical problems. Don't think the dude is being completely honest with you. Just my opinion.
Something does not seem right a dead battery would not cuase those problems. I do not believe the Deuce ever came with a 200 from the factory, when the other softails got a 200 the duece did not. I could be wrong but I believe the duece was a 160 or 180. Do a search online and you will get that answer.
Meh' sounds like a Headache. Something was fiddled around with an not done back up properly.
Walk Away unless he is selling it at salvaged title bike pricing!

A Fat Boy rear wheel. Why? Not my choice. Not tracking well? Get that frame checked for prior damage.
IMO, unless the price is totally compelling for you, I'd move onto another resale Deuce. There is more "fish in the sea than has ever come out of it"
The Deuce is a great bike, and for me though I now also have a Road Glide, the Deuce is a keeper. Both are different rides, and each fits its purpose perfectly.
If he's not willing to go down substatualy in price 'run' don't walk away.
Cause that bikes going to need a lot of TLC before its brought back up to reasonable riding condition.. Hell with all the 'funny' problems its got I would have to question its reliablility if not its safety the way it is.
As far as I know no Deuce ever had a 200 rear tire from the factory. So if they didn't put the Fatboy wheel in the right way, with the right parts, it's going to put the wheel off center and that could well account for at least part of the tracking problem.

Standard Deuce's came with 160's. To fit the 200 the axle adjusters have to adjusted shorter on one side to alloe for belt clearance. This is probably why the bike pulls to one side. As for the dead battery effecting the speedo, that's BS. You should pass on this one and keep looking.
