I installed the 422s a couple weeks ago and the ride has been great so far except.... when I ride highway speeds and hit bumps. I didn't hear a clank, but my butt/back took a beating and I bounced off the seat a bit. I left the preload at stock and have since then turned it counterclockwise twice to increase the preload. I weight about 210-215.
Is bouncing off the seat a good sign of bottoming out? It almost seems a little dangerous. Also, when I adjust the shocks preload with the spanner wrench, is it ok the shock can is turning while I do it? I want to make sure I don't need to keep the outer can still while I turn the internals.
I've adjusted mine and the can turns too, you have to find the sweetspot, either soften them some they may have too much preload.I know mine with too much was like riding a hardtail. If you still hit a good bump it will lift you off the seat, fun at highway speeds huh,

hehe, yeah highway speeds are crazy with the bumps. I did two turns for now, it was at the lightest rider setting before. We'll see if this helps. how many turns did you do and how much do you weigh if you don't mind me askin?
My 422 did that when I first installed them. i'm 220 lbs and I adjusted them stiffer (counter clock wise, out) 2 turns from the factory setting. now when I sit on it at a stop it only goes down about 1/2 inch. I have the bike lowered 1.5 inches.
I am 185 and went a turn and a 1/4. went 2 turns and you couldn't even push it down much very stiff, just make it stiff and then keep taking a 1/4 turn at a time away till you hit the sweet spot. I liked the ride when real soft, but would bottom out way too easy. Mine will still bump me off the saddle when hitting bad bumps at higher speeds. looks cool though.
