I have a quick detach windshield om my custom and recently started wearing my half helmet and notice buffeting at highway speeds, tried to adjust it up or down as much as possible but its still there. getting ready to take a road trip and dont really feel like dealing with that all the way so does anyone have any suggestions.
- does the half helmet have a detachable visor? I took mine off and it helps with the buffeting.
- If you take your hand and while riding, place in under your chin to basically block the wind from coming up and the buffeting stops, then some wind deflectors on your forks would help, because the wind is coming from the bottom up. If not, (like for me), and its coming from over the top of the windshield, no further advice because I cant get taller windshield right now.
My windshield does the same exact thing on my Night Train. Im 6-4 and the windshield is just not high enough. I have the standard height HD one.
Wind deflectors. I'm convinced they do the trick. When I bought my 07 Heritage it had a standard size windshield and wind deflectors. I got almost no buffeting. I changed the standard to a shorter windshield because I wanted to see over the top. Some buffeting, but not much.
My previous bike had a Memphis Fats windshield and I tried all kinds of adjustments and wearing different helments. No wind deflectors (lowers) and could not eliminate all the buffeting.
I have the nostalgic windshield on mine and I Get allot of wind from underneath but I learnt to deal with it.
+1 for what UTZ says. I think, unfortunatley, it's inevitable with these POS Harley windshields. A lot of money for crap IMO.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. There are some days where I feel like taking mine off and leaving it in a ditch somewhere, but then I remember it cost me $450.

+1. I put lowers on the forks of my Sportster and it did the trick. Funny, my new Heritage doesn't seem to need them.

I hear ya. I actually did that but then after I cooled down I went back and got it, and then promptly put it on eBay. I'd rather eat 10 pounds of bugs than have the buffeting on the top of my head and my beard sticking straight up. I can honestly say that the money I spent on that was THE worst investment I have ever made.
