Curiosity question. I read periodically people talking about issues with the 110 motor, but that the 103 is a more stable platform. So here's the question. What's really the deal. I've seen a 2008 FXSTSSE that I like, which of course has the 110". The 110 reliability is my one concern about it. Thoughts?

I had heard this about the 110 upgrade from the stock 96, compared to the 103 upgrade. had to do with seal problems? not sure if this applied to the factory built 110's or not.

Heat, head warpage issues, head gaskets, oil leaks....I think they did a recall on em' last year at some point? The first batch was garbage Bro.

I'm almost certain the issues have been addressed on most bikes out on the used market.....Ask the sellor if he has had any of the recall work or warranted fixes done?

Buy the bike cuz' you like the bike. Dont buy it thinking the 110 is gonna own all your riding buddies as the first buy with a well sorted 95" or 103 is gonna easily out motor the 110. They dont make that much power until they are tinkered with.....Nothing earth shatteringly potent about the 110.

Yeah. Was looking at it primarily for the other CVO touches and more worried about the 110 than excited about what it would offer.

I'm not big on warranties, but this is an exception. But, extra $ for an extended warranty should not be a problem for anyone buying a CVO.

There was a string of articles in the American Iron mag about the 110. More then meets the eye. The whole engine isn't designed correctly. I recall even the bolyt patter for the head mtg is too close. Stay clear. The 103 is excellent choice. Some extra work to it and it will beat up a standard 110.

Good thinking there!!

Have you compared the cost of a CVO bike to say a regular edition model and considered what you could do with the extra moolah?

The case is also different and somewhat problematic when going bigger bores. 96 case is better suited to hotrod.

Yep. I'm working on buying a 2010 Fat Boy in the next couple of months and ran across this thing and of course it got me to thinking a bit. I'll probably come to several varying decisions in the next couple of months.
