Don't know what others may think of this book, but I saw it yesterday at the bookstore and decided to pick it up.
It's titled, "101 Harley-Davidson Twin Cam Performance Projects" written by Chris Maida with Mark Zimmerman. Full color, glossy pages, and it breaks down a lot of after market type improvements that are not spelled out in the service manual. It also provides some amplifying information on regular maintenance stuff, all with full color pics for dummies like me!
Just got it, haven't had a chance to spend much time with it, but go check it out for yourself. It includes a description on how to lower bikes...
Just did the lowering thing last week. If your doing it with the shock studs
it is easy as pie. You need to raise bike off the ground so the tire is hanging
in air, Take front nut at the frame off first. Then the bolts at rear off shock on swingarm. Take the shocks to dealer and have him install new studs as you need to compress shock and take apart to put on new stud. Only takes them 1/2 hout. Worth it.
To put back on keep bike up in are and stick another jack under back tire and raise tire up a little. Put front of stud thru frame and then you can lower tire to line up back of shock to the swingarm holes. Then all you need to do is ajust nut on end of shock a few threads at a time and lower bike down and see if you like the drop. if not just lift bike up and go a few threads more. I have a copy of the instructions. i will try and copy them and send to you. If i can do it anyone can.[8D]
I just ran into the same problem...I got the shocks off and was lost from there.I put them in a box along with the instuctions and im going to my local bike shop for them to take apart the shocks...Cant wait to put my bike in the weeds
I'm about to do this to my bike but how do you lift the bike and still have access to undo the shocks? My bike lift sits on the frame and you cant get the shocks out. How did you guys do this?

Just change the spot on the frame where the jack hits the frame. move the jack a little

After you jack it up use car jack stands to hold the bike up. Look at picture below. I just removed the center yellow bike floor jack to have easy access.
