I have read all the forum links discribing a buzzing sound at speeds 70+ in 88B's. What I am wondering is my 2004 FatBoy at 70+ makes a buzzing sound but it sounds more like it is coming out of the back of the bike than the front area. Is this the buzzing eveyone is talking about or am I just hearing something flapping at high speed in the back of the bike?
I don't know about a buzzing sound. But there is a buzzing in my backside at about 75-85. Seems to go away above that.
I think you are hearing something else. Maybe a collar flapping, or helmet straps maybe.
It's funny how you find new noises that you didn't here before. I had this rattle everytime I went over a bump. Looked and looked all over the place for it. Thought it was in the front somewhere. Thought it was in the console. I even put bubble rap in the console to try and get rid of it. One day I was cleaning out my saddle bags and I found a bottle of Pepsid pills. I moved them to my backpack and the rattle was gone. Crazy the things you here while riding and sometimes you find them in the strangest places!
This buzz I'm talking about is very high pitched buzzing and yes I thought it was something flapping but I was reading about those that have a buzz at 70+ coming from the balancers in the 88B's. So I was wondering if that is what I was hearing. Only when I turn my head it seems to be coming from the back of the bike.
Bike runs great so no big deal. I'll find it sooner or later......
My ex's Deluxe makes a buzzing in the back end at highway speeds...it's the license plate vibrating in its clamp. A license plate frame fixes that, as the clamp is actually sized to grip a frame, not a bare plate.
When I took off the chrome cover (very tricky by the way) I sort of broke one the 2 back pins off....so really only 1 good tight pins holds it on. While riding one day I told my wife to reach back and put her hand in the middle of the rear back rest...presto, no more buzzing sound. What I plan on doing is taking it completely off and getting one of the sticky HD emblems to cover the screw.
OK, I can see that! I did remove the pad becuase the sissy bar was turned around backwards. But I had no crome cover and I put on a sticky HOG emblem over the screw.
One of the earlier posts talked about the license plate frame. I checked the license plate and found that the top screws are missing and I can flick the license frame on the top which bangs against the license plate. I think this is what I am hearing as it probably ossolates at high speeds making the buzzing sound. I will see nezxt time I'm doing 70ish.
The crazy things you find and here!!
