I think that there is little a cam will do to make your engine into a different engine... all by itself. Changing a cam on a stock engine means that something you don't have now will arrive but also that something you do have now will disappear. In other words, cams are not silver bullets. At best you will be more impressed with the performance but less impressed with the gas mileage.
The advice you received about deciding what it is you are after and what else you are going to do with the engine is the best you will get. Selecting a cam is not a name brand game or a catalog adventure... it is a science. There are a lot of builders who have, through trial and error, figured out what to do to get a bike off the line fast with good torque and top end. Most cam conversations, from my point of view, evolve into a mine's bigger than yours bragathon.
The best advice you can get is from someone that specializes in what you want to do... touring, street racing, drags, sound tough, whatever...
I'm trying to figure out what cam to put in this winter... bike ('09 Heritage) is pretty much stock now. Adding a few other goodies this winter, and wondering if anyone can recommend some cams. Anyone know of one that gives a little more high-end? Any help would be great.
thanx
