Default Tools for the bike

I like to wrench, I have a pretty good selection of tools now... but with the bike I would rather not scar the chrome with old sockets. Am I being to ****?..... what do you guys do to protect the finish? One other thing, some of the bolts look like allen but are there some torx as well?
