I'm finally breaking down and purchasing a set of 16" Carlini Gangster Apes for my '03 Deuce, BUT i can't decide if I want the 1.25" thick bars or the 1.5"s. If I go with the 1.5"s, I'll have to purchase the carlini risers which aren't cheap. Even then, i'm torn between their piston risers or the one piece smooth clamp riser. Right now I've got 12" ape's on 6" risers, so i should have enough wire length to pull off the swap...
What kind of bike? I've got 1.25's and I'm happy with the look. Plus, I used my stock risers.
Carlini's tend to run a little bigger than their advertised length, which is what they told me when I ordered mine (mine are 14s which measure to 15.5). So your 16's may be closer to 17 -17.5. Just be aware of this regarding your wires.

Thank for the info. The bars are going on my 2003 Deuce. How tall are your stock risers? Did you stick with the 1" clamp diameter bars? I'm leaning towards the 1.25" bars and ordering their 1.25" tall diamond risers.
Dr V-Twin, curious..why you think i should stick with the one piece clamp?? looks?
One piece clamp is a necessity because the bars are going to twist. The taller the apes are, the more torque you put on the clamps (basic physics). SO stick with a one piece top clamp so you're not tweaking your bars every time you tug on them.

Also, don't forget your polyurethane bushings
beat me to it. A wise move for apes. Also, make sure you get Polyurethane riser bushings to keep the risers from flexing too much. Another necessity.
another question regarding the risers. I'm thinking about getting 1 1/4" tall Wild 1 chubby risers from ebay, so the risers will match the thickness of the new bars. Worth it?? or just stick with much cheaper 1" thick risers?
