After a bit of beer drinkin' and brain stormin', converting the front end of a FXST to a FL style would be a simple matter of parts swapping... OR are we missing someting?
- Are the frames the same?
- Neck size? Steering head bearings? Geometry?
- Has anyone done this conversion? How was it? Did you like the results?
What do y'all think? Thoughts, tips, tricks, opinions... Let's discuss...
I dont know...I'm more partial to the FX front end than the FL as far as looks. I have never ridden an FL so I dont know anything more technical about it other than looks.
Thanks for the replys!! This thread was not started to be a parts locator... However, if you have parts for the conversion, shoot me a PM and I'll pass the info on to my buddy. He's REAL gung-ho about getting this done to his FXST... And me... Well... I'm still on the "would be kinda cool" fence.
I'd still like to confirm that the frames are the same. Mostly the steering head and steering geometery... Seems like my 2005 FXST is raked out more than my buddy's late 90's bagger. Is that just due to a longer fork set up?
Does anyone know the frame specs? Or know where I could find them?
USe the FL style from a Fatboy, Heritage or any other FLST for a direct replacement. If you use the same generation as your FXST (86-99 or 2000-2006, or 07-up) everything will swap straight across.

Thanks Cam!! That's good to know!! Both "conversion candidate" FXST's are from the 2000-2006 generation.

I'm still like this --->
I think at least one of our bikes will end up as a FX/FLST...
I did the conversion myself on my 06 Fatboy about a year ago, I got a never used FXST front end from an 07. It was a dealer takeoff bought it for $200 plus 70 for shipping off Ebay. I changed the lowers so I could use a 3/4 inch axle. Found a never used 40 spoke 02 FXST wheel on Ebay for 20 plus 17 for shipping. Everything bolted right up. Took about 3 hours of not very much exertion. Stock wheel spacers and rotor fit perfectly.
I swapped one on mine. It came off a 04 Fatty mines a 06 std. everything bolted right up used my same rim and tire all the brakes (caliper, line, disc). I bought a deluxe fender from J&P cut and welded my windshield mounts to fit. the only problem was the headlight I bought one off of ebay, it didn't have the plug on it I tried to undo the stock plug and messed up the connnectors inside so my dims dont work all the time, will need to buy a wiring harness for that soon, also hard time finding paint to match ( without paying an arm and leg for a pint $120 from Harley). Any question PM me.
