I currently have a Deluxe with a windshield but I get a good bit of wind in my chest on each side from under the winshield area. The H-D catalog lists a softail chrome wind delflector that attaches to the front fork. According to the catalog it only fits Heritage models.
1) Has anyone used this wind deflector on their Heritage?
2) Has anyone tried it on a Deluxe?
3) Does anyone else have the wind issue on their Deluxe and if so have you tried any other solution. Really don't want a fairing though.
no Deluxe or Heritage - I have these deflectors on a FatBoy. they knock off the wind that comes under the windshield. I like them so much, I run them all the time, and wouldn't take them off for anything.
I put them on my Deluxe and they fit just fine. I wanted to try them out on a 200 mile ride back in Feb. I give them a "B", and that's only if you're okay with the looks (I'm not). They definitely cut down on the wind that comes up from under the windshield. But I experienced some buffeting. Where as before they was a constant wind coming from below, with the deflectors, there would be wind and then calm and wind and calm, aka, buffeting. I'm going on a 1000 mile ride over Memorial Day and I'll give them one more shot.
I've had my Heritage for 3 weeks and yesterday I put wind deflectors on. I have had these on my metrics, generally called lowers. The Harley lowers are the most moderately priced I have had. I love 'em and would not ride without them.
Boy, I wish mine worked for me. When I bought my 2010 Heritage, the buffeting was so bad I took the windshield off. I heard about the fork deflectors, so I invested in them. They make no difference for me. The buffeting is still so bad I cannot use the windshield, even with the deflectors. I'm 6' 1" and maybe my windshield is just too short, or too tall, or something. I'd like to use the windshield, but cannot.
I'm with Mathis as far as them being a boat anchor. I've heard people praising the chit outta them, but have heard people say they are worthless. I've come to the conclusion there are to many variables so the only way to tell if they work is to try them and that's a crap shoot. If they work for you, great. But if not, like in my situation.. Oh well.......
I have them on my Heritage and for me, they work. They have been on my bike so long that I thought my bike looked nekkid when I took them off one day for cleaning. They probably cut my gas mileage a few mpg, but I think it is worth it to keep the wind from coming under the windshield.
